There was a moment - certainly brief - where ISIS was a violent jihadi movement (there's lots of heads in this video - be careful) but still wanted some kind of outside legitimacy. Enough to allow in a journalist to tell its tale. Is it propaganda - ISIS intends it to be - but it remains the only look inside the inner workings of the group. Two months after his reporting ISIS was overrunning northern Iraq, laying siege to Yazidi towns, and getting bombed by the United States. After that, very bad things happen to reporters in ISIS territory.
