Watched the new year come in with fireworks from London and Edinburgh. writing in my new Hobonichi planner/diary. thinking of all the christmas thank you cards to write once we are back state-side. Next France and Paris. Winter Session begins tomorrow. and then the craziness - 6 quizzes and 3 tests in five weeks. itvs annual harry potter marathon is coming to an end. Last year we started in edinburgh and every night a new movie.
So again it comes to an end as the year ends. Deathly hallows part 2 is halfway through. Nandos has closed. The fireworks will begin soon. The year ends. And we are in britannia again. Liverpool FC won in a come from behind victory. Had fourth row seats in the daglish/kop corner. Awesome to see such a great game.

Great BIG History Podcast will take us on the journey from 10,000 BCE to last week. We will start with the basic HIS 101, HIS 102 type intro college course. laying out big events, important characters, interesting trends. After that, we will start our deep dive series. "8 Kings and a Queen" - a history of Sweden and Scandinavia from 1520-1721. and "History behind the News" - where we take big news events such as the rise of ISIS and discuss it in a historical context. and finally, out military history section will talk about the battles, wars, weapons, treaties and philosophies which have defined fighting in the world (and in historical fiction as well - look out Game of Thrones we're looking at how you use dragon airpower and how the Starks use Soft Power keep hold of the North and our hearts). Find episodes here: greatbighistory.com A Sad Story of a Sad Family - and not knowing if you should (or can escape)
follow a family across 3 years from fighting a revolution to ISIS arriving in Aleppo to being refugees. you can also find the video and information here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/children-of-syria/ Europeans have gone to join ISIS but they have also gone to fight against it. Here is a VICE video about some of those ppl - including women who have left their families and children to fight against ISIS we discussed this at last nights lecture.
